Hundreds of millions of empty inkjet and toner cartridges still end up in landfills every year. But the majority of these are perfectly suitable for reuse. Recycling expert Recoll sees global growth opportunities, which is why it required a new, scalable platform that is more in line with current business processes. PAQT developed a Minimum Viable Product and realized the migration from the old to the new platform. The new front office portal promotes printer cartridge recycling in 20+ European countries.
About Recoll
Recoll gives used cartridges a new lease of life. The cartridges are stripped of all packaging materials. Then, they’re visually inspected and packed in a sorted manner. At the production site, the cartridges are visually inspected for the second time and checked electronically. The ones that still work well are thoroughly cleaned, refilled, and packed. These cheaper, alternative cartridges are offered with a 100% quality guarantee.
This future-proof platform gives us the opportunity to significantly scale up at a global level in the coming years. PAQT understands our company, our processes, and our market and delivers quickly. It’s a dynamic group of nice, young employees that we’d like to keep working with in the long term!

In the coming years, Recoll wants to grow significantly in Europe — partly by adding new white label brands, partly by broadening the product range through the collection and recycling of other materials — possibly products such as printers and phones — in a similar way. The former platform no longer matched the processes. On top of that, it was insufficiently scalable to realize future plans.

Minimum viable product
We decided to start with an MVP and gradually expand it. Both the back end and front end of this new platform are linked to the company’s own SAP systems and to the software of three transporters. Retailers that handle the collection of cartridges, the back office, transporters, and the Production Department work together through the platform. Furthermore, we’ve integrated the B2B web shop and set up a savings system.
Ready for the future
The new portal integrates the activities of all parties involved, which encourages the growth of Recoll and is good for the environment. The more products are recylced, the smaller the unnecessary amount of waste.
The front office portal promotes recycling in the Benelux, Germany, the UK, France, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, and Scandinavia. Agreements about the collection of cartridges have been made with various retail chains, including Bruna, Primera, SuperU, Ryman, and Isolda.
